Green Bay Blizzard News Release

Green Bay, WI- Coming off an early bye week, the Green Bay Blizzard (0-1) look for their first win of the season when they take on the Cedar Rapids Titans (0-1) this Saturday, March 8. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05 P.M. on MediaCom Field at U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, IA.

The official Blizzard watch party will be at Burkel's in Green Bay . Located behind Brett Farve's Steakhouse, enjoy food and drink specials while watching the game with Blizzard fans and staff.

The game will be the sixth meeting all-time between the two teams, with the Blizzard holding a slight 3-2 advantage overall. Cedar Rapids won the teams' last meeting, taking the 2013 regular season finale 49-42.

The Blizzard will see some familiar faces on the opposite sideline again this weekend, as Titans coach Mark Stoute, quarterback Spencer Ohm, and running back LaRon Council all have ties to the team . Ohm and Council have both played for the Blizzard in 2013 and 2012 respectively. Mark Stoute was an assistant head coach for the Blizzard in 2006 and 2008, helping lead the team to conference championships.

The Blizzard are chasing their first win of 2014 after dropping their first game to Bemidji in the season opener. Despite the loss, the Blizzard hope to get back on track with a win this week.

Against Bemidji, the Blizzard saw shades of a potentially explosive offense and saw a solid performance by rookie quarterback Taylor Perkins. In the first IFL game of his career, Perkins completed a team - record 29 passes for 241 and four touchdowns. Additionally, the Blizzard lead the league in passing offense thanks to both Perkins and wide receiver Markieth Summers. Summers, who is also a rookie, caught 11 passes for 114 yards, accounting for 47 percent of the team's entire offensive yards. The offense will look to build off this successful performance this week.

While the offense played well in week one, the Blizzard defense and special teams hope to improve in their second game of the season. Rookie linebacker Nate Keller led the team with 6.5 total tackles against Bemidji, but the Blizzard recorded no sacks or turnovers in the game. Additionally, the team hopes to see a better performance on special teams after converting just one of seven field goals in week 1.

The Titans, who are also coming off a bye week, lost their first game of the season to the Texas Revolution 47-38.

The offense, led by Ohm, gained 215 total yards in their first game, good for seventh in the conference. Ohm accrued just 97 yards passing with two touchdowns, but had three critical interceptions. Receiver Carl Sims recorded eight catches for 114 yards and a touchdown, helping pace the Titans offense. Cedar Rapids also got a solid performance from Council, who gained 38 yards and scored two touchdowns.

While the Cedar Rapids defense only allowed 194 yards in their first game, they had trouble keeping Texas out of the end zone after the offense turned the ball over and gave up 47 total points. The defense played especially stout against the run, but the team allowed rookie Texas QB Jimmy Coy to pass for five touchdowns . Linebacker Pasqua Vacchio recorded 8 solo tackles and a forced fumble in his first outing, and 2013 IFL sack leader Xavie Jackson also recorded a sack.
