Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins season came to an end Wednesday night as they fell to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 5-0 in game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
In the opening period, despite several chances and two power play opportunities, the P-Bruins were unable to put the puck past Penguins goaltender Brad Thiessen in the first period. One of the best opportunities of the period came with just 15 seconds remaining when David Warsofsky took a slap shot from the point. Jordan Caron was in front for the screen, but Thiessen made the blind save. Providence outshot the Penguins 11-5 in the first 20 minutes as the game went into the first intermission scoreless.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton got on the scoreboard at the 4:44 mark of the second period, while on the power play. Chad Kolarik netted his fifth goal of the playoffs, while Brian Dumoulin recorded the lone assist. At 13:04 of the period, Warren Peters extended the lead to 2-0. Joey Mormina and Peter Merth had the assists. Just over two minutes later, Adam Payerl one-timed a pass from Chris Collins into a wide open net to make it 3-0. At the 17:15 mark, Zach Sill added another goal for the Penguins to make it 4-0. Collins and Dominik Uher picked up assists on the play.
Niklas Svedberg left the game after the second period making 15 saves and Michael Hutchinson came on in relief. The P-Bruins once again put pressure on in the final frame. Early in the period, Ryan Spooner stickhandled through the neutral and offensive zones, only to be stopped by Thiessen. Forty seconds later, Carter Camper one-timed a pass from Craig Cunningham, but Thiessen made another save. Despite numerous efforts and outshooting WB/Scranton 16-5 in the third period, Providence couldn't find the back of the net.
