
Great Falls rally stuns Xplosion in OT, 111-106

PITTSBURGH, PA - Great Falls (11-5) hit a three-point basket with two seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime and took control in the extra session to defeat Pittsburgh (1-14) in Continental Basketball Association action at the Petersen Event Center, 111-106. Kevin Pittsnogle led the Xplosion with a game-high 28 points and Janerio Spurlock added 24.
An exciting game throughout, the Black and Gold won the opening quarter 25-23 and also took the second period, 25-20, to lead at halftime, 50-43. Great Falls won the third quarter, 28-25, when Eric Strand hit a three at the buzzer to make it a four-point game entering the final quarter.
The Explorers clawed into the lead in the final quarter and led by as many as six on several occasions. Pittsburgh, however, drew within one on a three-point basket by Spurlock and took the lead on a Pittsnogle bucket. Two free throws by Marvin Phillips made it a three-point game 97-94. After a Great Falls turnover, Pittsburgh attempted to inbound, but the Explorers' Marlyn Brant swiped the inbounds pass and hit an off-balance three-pointer to force overtime.
Great Falls led for most of overtime, but it was still a one possession game with 30 seconds left. Pittsburgh had a chance to tie on a three-pointer by Spurlock and the Explorers iced the game with free throws.
Marvin Phillips added 16 points for Pittsburgh, Andre Joseph added 14 points nine rebounds and seven assists.
Jamar Howard had 20 points and 16 rebounds to lead six Explorers in double figures.
The Xplosion and Explorers square-off again on Monday at the Petersen Event Center. Game time is 7:05 PM.
