Minot Skyrockets News Release
Butte, MT - The Minot Skyrockets pulled themselves out of a 5-game losing streak tonight when they defeated the Butte Daredevils. Playing the second game of a 3-game road trip, the Skyrockets held off a late run by the Daredevils and found themselves on top at the final buzzer.
The Skyrockets won the first quarter by only 3 points, but pulled ahead in the second. They went into the locker room at half-time up by 15 points (67-52), but the Daredevils weren't about to give up yet. Butte won the third quarter by one point and had an impressive run in the final quarter, defeating the Skyrockets 33-25 in the fourth. But the final score of 117-111 put the Skyrockets on top and back into second place in the American Division, with a 5-2 win in the quarter point score.
Guard Willie Chandler was the leading scorer for Minot with 24 points, including six 3-pointers. Chandler has struggled lately with his shooting, but found his stride in Butte. He also posted 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals in the game.
Point guard Jitim Young also had a strong showing with 23 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists, and 2 steals. Seven-foot center Steve Castleberry posted his first double-double of the year with 10 points and 12 total rebounds (5 offensive and 7 defensive).
Another big difference for the Skyrockets was their free-throw shooting. Previously, they have hovered around 60% from the line, but last night, they hit 82% (23-28) on free throws, giving them an extra boost.
Odartey Blankson was the leading scorer for the Butte Daredevils with 23 points. Butte had six other players hitting double-digits in scoring.
