Clearwater Threshers News Release
CLEARWATER, FL - Mavis Graves struck out ten in his first relief appearance as the Clearwater Threshers (26-12) held the Daytona Tortugas (19-19) to one hit in a 6-1 victory on Saturday night at BayCare Ballpark. The Threshers look for their fourth-straight win in the series finale on Sunday.
Saltiban sent the first pitch of the bottom second into the left field bullpen for a solo home run to open the scoring for the Threshers. Jordan Viars drew a walk and scored on a triple by Raylin Heredia. Avery Owusu-Asiedu continued the scoring run with a single to bring Heredia home and give the Threshers a 3-0 lead.
Daytona got a run back on a two-out RBI single in the fourth to cut the Threshers lead to 3-1. Heredia responded with a leadoff single in the bottom of the inning off Tortugas starter Brian Edgington. He advanced to second on a throwing error and moved to third on a groundout. Aidan Miller drew a walk with two outs before Luis Caicuto cleared the bases with a double to make it 5-1.
Saltiban greeted Tortugas reliever Simon Miller with his second homer of the game to lead off the eighth. Daytona couldn't get a runner home despite putting two on in the ninth, sealing a 6-1 win for the Threshers.
George Klassen retired all six batters he faced with three strikeouts in 2.0 shutout innings. Graves (4-1) allowed one unearned run in 6.0 innings, surrendering one hit and walking one with ten strikeouts to earn the win. Jose Peña struck out one in a scoreless and hitless ninth.
