Colorado Mammoth News Release
DENVER - Some say history repeats itself. In the case of Mammoth forward John Grant Jr., the adage couldn't be more true. The National Lacrosse League announced today that Grant, the league's reigning Player of the Month, has earned the award once again.
"I am honored to be named the Player of the Month," said Grant, "but I'm more focused on getting back on track this weekend. We have a real tough stretch coming up, and we need to be better."
In three games in February, the 37-year-old, having perhaps his finest season in his 12-year-career, scored 11 goals and assisted on 11 more. As he's done in every game this season, Grant led the team in points and recorded a hat trick or better in all three contests last month.
The all-time NLL leader in career points-per-game, Grant continued his pursuit of history in February as he is on pace to shatter the league's single-season points record. He is also on the verge of becoming just the third player in NLL history to reach 500 career goals, needing four more to reach the milestone.
Grant and the West-Division-leading Mammoth (6-1) face the Buffalo Bandits at First Niagara Center in western N.Y. on Saturday at 5:30pm MT. Colorado's next home game is Saturday, March 10 at 7pm MT against the Washington Stealth. Tickets for all Mammoth home games are on sale now at the Pepsi Center box office, all Colorado Dick's Sporting Goods retail kiosks, online at TicketHorse.com, or by calling 303.53.HORSE.
