Grand Junction Jackalopes News Release
The Grand Junction Rockies 4-game losing streak is over after an 8-7 win over the Ogden Raptors Sunday afternoon at Lindquist Field.
With the game tied 7-7, Daniel Montano followed Grant Lavigne's triple with an RBI single to put the Rockies on top, and in the bottom of the inning, Jacob Amaya singled and stole second, but Alexander Martinez struck out Niko Hulsizer with two out to end the threat.
After the Rockies couldn't score in the ninth, Matt Cogen started the bottom of the inning with a double off Martinez, but he got Dillon Paulson to ground out, then he struck out Preston Grand Pre, and ended the game when Alvaro Rubi grounded out to shortstop Coco Montes to end the game for his second save.
The Rockies struck first when Lavigne followed Todd Czinege's second inning double with an RBI single, but Ogden took the lead on Hulsizer's 3-run homer the next inning, though the Rockies didn't trail for long.
With the help of a hit batter and an error, the Rockies had runners at second and third with nobody out, and Lavigne made it a one run game with an RBI ground out, and Montano's RBI double tied it. Zach Hall capped the three running inning with an RBI double to put the Rockies in front.
Ronny Brito's RBI single in the bottom of the inning tied the game, but the Rockies scored three more in the fifth with the help of Czinege's third home run of the season, though the lead didn't last as Brito's 2-run homer in the sixth made it a one run game, and Cogen started the seventh with his first homer.
The three home runs are the most allowed in a game by the Rockies this season.
Czinege, Lavigne, and Montano had two hit afternoons and drove home two runs.
