(GUELPH) The Guelph Storm announced today that goaltender Thomas McCollum is the Grand & Toy Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, April 6th. McCollum will also be the Guelph Storm nominee for OHL Player of the Week. In two games last week, the Storm goaltender saved 53 of 55 shots recording a goals against average of 1.00 and a save percentage of 0.964. This is McCollum's sixth Player of the Week Honour during the 2007-08 season.
On Thursday night in Sault Ste. Marie, the Sanborn New York native made 26 saves and was only beaten once in the Storm's 4-1 victory. Throughout the contest McCollum made a number of game saving saves and was instrumental in helping his team jump out to an early 1-0 lead in the Western Conference Semifinal series. The 18 year old was named the second star of the night for his efforts. The next night at the Steelback Centre, McCollum stopped 28 of 29 shots in the Storm's 3-1 loss. The Greyhounds tied the series by beating the Storm netminder only once in the loss. The other two tallies came with McCollum on the bench for the extra attacker. For the second straight game, McCollum was awarded with a star of the game as he was named third star of the game.
In seven playoff games McCollum has a record of 5-2-0, a goals against average of 1.43 and a save percentage of 0.953. So far in the 2008 playoffs, McCollum is ranked in the top ten of four league categories. He is currently 1st in goals against average (1.43), 2nd in save percentage (0.953), 3rd in shutouts (1), and fifth in wins (5).
Next up, McCollum and the rest of the Storm take on the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds for the Fourth Game of the Western Conference Semifinal series. The first two games were played in the Soo with the series shifting back to Guelph for games three and four. Puck drop for both games is 7:00 pm.
