Gorillas receive several great results in Best-of-the-Best Poll

AMARILLO, TX – The Amarillo Gorillas received some great news today (Wednesday) in the Best-of-the-Best Poll results announced by the Central Hockey League.

Each of the CHL teams whether it was players, coaching staff and media relations departments voted on various categories and the results were tabulated by Roy Lang of the Shreveport Times.

Forward Dave Rattray was chosen as the Best Defensive Forward and Best Player on Face-offs, while Derek Hahn was chosen Most Underrated Player and placed third in Best Stickhandler.

For the second consecutive year, Stomp was picked as Best Mascot, while the Crazy Apes were third in the voting for Best Booster Club. The Amarillo Gorillas finished third for the Best Press Box.

The Amarillo Gorillas are tied for first place in the Southwest Division and the Southern Conference following their 3-2 win over the Corpus Christi Rayz on Tuesday night. The Gorillas have 25 wins on the season including 15 on home ice.

Joe FerrasÂ’ charges begin an important three game road trip in South Texas on Friday night when they entertain the Laredo Bucks at the Laredo Entertainment Center. Fans can tune into the game on 1440 Am The Score beginning with the FarmerÂ’s Insurance Group Warm Up Show at 7:10 p.m. Amarillo Gorillas Hockey Presented by Bank of America follows at 7:30 p.m. The game is also available on the world wide web at www.amarillgorillas.com and www.chltv.com.

On Saturday night, the Gorillas visit the Austin Ice Bats at the Travis County Expo Center. The Gorillas have won the previous three visits to the Expo Center in the history of the franchise. The game can be heard on 1440 Am The Score with the pre-game show at 7:10 p.m. Amarillo Gorillas Hockey Presented by Bank of America faces off at 7:30 p.m. The is available at www.amarillogorillas.com but there is no CHLTV for this contest.

The Gorillas conclude the road trip in Hidalgo, Texas on Sunday night when they face the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees. The Pre-Game Show sets the stage at 5:40 p.m. followed by the face-off at 6 p.m. The game can also be heard on the world wide web at www.amarillogorillas.com and seen on www.chltv.com.

The Amarillo Gorillas return to home ice on Friday, Mar. 5 when they host the Lubbock Cotton Kings in the second of a home and home series at 7 p.m. at The Jungle in the Amarillo Civic Center. The Gorillas will wear their St. PatrickÂ’s Day Jerseys and an auction follows at the Ape Escape. The night is sponsored by Coors Light and BenniganÂ’s and there is sure to be great giveaways at the door.

A reminder that playoff strips are currently available for the 2004-2005 Central Hockey League playoffs. There is a maximum of 12 possible home games during this yearÂ’s playoffs and the cost is $180 for adults anywhere in the Jungle seating area. If fans purchase one adult playoff strip they will receive their childÂ’s playoff strip free courtesy of ReidÂ’s Appliances. Season ticket holders have until Friday, Feb. 25 to reserve their seats for the playoffs or they will be made available to the general public beginning Monday, Feb. 28.

As an added bonus, those hockey fans who pay for their 2005-2006 Season Tickets in full by March 18 will receive this yearÂ’s playoff strips absolutely free.
