Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

SLIDING PAST THE OILERS – Dan Wildfong scored two goals and Chris Brassard added a goal and an assist as the Mudbugs defeated the Tulsa Oilers on Tuesday evening 4-1 with four unanswered goals at the Tulsa Convention Center. The win snapped the Mudbugs' first two-game losing streak since December and improved their overall record to 31-13-4. Dan Gravelle of Tulsa would score just 58 seconds into the game, but Ken Carroll was perfect for the rest of the way between the pipes. In the second period, Wildfong jammed a loose puck past Oilers goaltender Bill Ruggiero to tie the game and break an 0-for-35 Mudbugs power play drought. Then just 37 seconds into the third period, Brassard blasted a one-timer past Ruggiero for the Mudbugs' second power play tally of the game. Insurance would come at 6:05 of the third period as Wes Blevins scored his first goal of the season and Wildfong would add his second goal with an empty-netter at 18:34.

COLORADO PULLS AWAY IN THIRD – On Sunday evening, the Mudbugs fell short on energy and on the scoreboard against the Colorado Eagles, 5-2 in front of 5,191 fans and 52 dogs during the team's "Pooch Party" at the CenturyTel Center. Eagles leading scorer Greg Pankewicz started his big night with a goal at 12:10 of the first period on a two-on-one with rookie Kevin Marsh. But Dan Wildfong would tie the game in the second period for the Mudbugs on a breakaway with his 26th goal. The Mudbugs would watch their 2-1 lead evaporate later as Mike Lephart tied the game for the Eagles and Pankewicz added two more to complete the hat trick and a 5-2 Eagles win.

BRAHMAS SNEAK BY – With three unanswered goals, the Fort Worth Brahmas defeated the Mudbugs 3-2 in front of 9,443 fans at the Fort Worth Convention Center on Friday night. The loss was the Mudbugs' first in regulation in seven games this season against the Fort Worth Brahmas. Scott Sheppard scored two goals for the Mudbugs, both assisted by Chad Kemp, for a 2-0 Bossier-Shreveport advantage. But Fort Worth scored late in the second period as Eric Lind slid a shot past Mudbugs goaltender Jeff Blair. Then in the third period, after multiple penalty calls against the Mudbugs, Chad Woollard tied the game on a five-on-three power play chance and Joey Bastien gave the Brahmas the lead with 4:23 left in regulation.

FIRST PERIOD LEADS THE WAY – With first period goals from each member of their Oliver-Palahicky-Sheppard line, the Mudbugs defeated the Topeka Tarantulas 3-1 on Friday night for their 30th win of the season. Three minutes into the game, David Oliver scored on a rebound from the slot and then fed Shane Palahicky five minutes later for a 2-0 Mudbugs lead. Palahicky would be lost due to an injury later in the period, but Scott Sheppard scored on a breakaway with 26 seconds left to give the Mudbugs the lead they would not surrender. Cosmo Dupaul scored for Topeka in the third period to give the Tarantulas some life, but Ken Carroll made 13 saves in the final twenty minutes to seal the win for the Mudbugs.
