Odessa, TX 11/29/09 - The Amarillo Gorillas could not complete the comeback Sunday night, falling 4-3 in overtime to the Odessa Jackalopes.
Amarillo goaltender Tuomas Lohtander did not see the first Odessa goal of the game, as forward Brian Swiniarski scored his first goal in his first game of the 09-10 season. The Gorillas answered midway through the period when forward David Nimmo hammered home a rebound for his first goal since coming off the 30-day injured reserve. Amarillo 1 Odessa 1 after one.
Odessa earned two goals in the second period, as Brian Swiniarski found the back of the net for his second goal of the game only 3 minutes into the frame. One minute after Odessa defenseman David Van Drunen shattered the glass to stop play for over 20 minutes, defenseman Michael Grenzy back-handed his first goal of the season past Gorillas netminder Tuomas Lohtander. At the end of two periods, Odessa 3 Amarillo 1.
Amarillo mounted a comeback in the third, as Jason Beeman and Shaun Arvai rattled two goals into the net to tie the game at three. End of regulation Amarillo 3 Odessa 3.
With 1:17 remaining in overtime, Kory Karlander shot the puck toward the Gorillas' net where Jean Bourbeau deflected it to win the game. Final score Odessa 4 Amarillo 3 in overtime.
The Gorillas will head home tonight to rest up for a two-game road swing next weekend, beginning December 4th in Bossier-Shreveport.
