Allen Americans News Release

ALLEN, Texas - The Allen Americans defeated their cross-town rivals and the defending CHL champion Texas Brahmas 4-3 tonight in a shootout. Allen's record now stands at 12-4-1 (25 points).

The Brahmas' Kevin McLeod got the first tally when he shot one past Charlie Effinger, who started the game after returning from the Texas Stars today. Effinger was called up for the second time this season Nov. 25. The Americans struck back before the first ended when Justin Bowers found the back of the net on a breakaway at 14:25.

The rest of the period was scoreless but not without controversy. Brahmas' forward James Hiebert plowed over goaltender Charlie Effinger after Effinger passed the puck out of his crease. Hiebert received a charging major and charging game misconduct for his unsportsmanlike hit. Effinger finished the first period but did not return to the game following the first intermission. Goalie Chris Whitley played the remainder of the contest.

The second period began with a goal from Kurtis Dulle that put the Americans up 2-1 at 1:48. Four minutes later McLeod got another in the net when the Brahmas screened Whitley. The teams headed into the locker rooms in a tie again.

Nino Musitelli netted a goal 1:06 into the third to put the Americans up 3-2, but McLeod scored his third goal of the night to tie the score at three. The teams headed into overtime with neither able to convert scoring opportunities in the remainder of regulation and the overtime period.

The Americans sent Bruce Graham, Justin Bowers and Ryan Fairbarn to shoot first in the shootout. All three netted goals, and it was enough to beat the Brahmas 3-2 in the shootout, securing a 4-3 victory tonight.

Nino Musitelli extended his point streak to 11 games with one goal and one assist tonight. Whitley got the win with 26 saves, and Effinger made nine tonight before he was injured.

The Americans host Rio Grande Valley tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. to end their stretch of seven games in 11 days. Their record so far in this period is 5-1-0.
