San Diego Surf Dawgs News Release
SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Surf Dawgs have agreed to terms with outfielder Scott Goodman and RHP Mike Leishman for the 2006 season. Both Goodman and Leishman were members of the 2005 Golden Baseball League Champions that led the GBL wire-to-wire during the regular season.
Goodman (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) had a fantastic season last year for the Surf Dawgs. His .310 batting average was second on the team for players playing in at least 25 games last season. The left-handed slugger smacked 12 home runs and drove in 69. His 69 RBI's were best on the team and his 12 home runs tied him for best on the team with fellow outfielder Seth Pietsch.
"Leechy," as Leishman is called, made 32 appearances out of the bullpen in 2005. The right-hander held opposing hitters to a paltry .206 batting average and had a better than 2:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio with 54 strikeouts and 25 walks issued in 35.2 innings. The San Francisco, Calif. native struck out an average of 13.63 K/9 ratio and allowed less than a hit an inning (26 hits in 35.2 innings). Leishman will be a cornerstone of the 2006 bullpen.
San Diego kicks off their season on June 1 when they travel to Yuma, Ariz. to take on the Yuma Scorpions at 7:05 p.m. The Dawgs and the Scorpions will both travel to San Diego when the Surf Dawgs open their home season on four days later on June 5 at Tony Gwynn Stadium on the campus of San Diego State University. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
