Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

Winnipeg will open training camp on Friday with 27 players.

Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced today that catchers Kevin Reimer and Ryan Richardson and pitcher Josh Sawatzky have been invited to training camp. The trio received the invite following today's closed tryout at Canwest Park, attended by 15 players, most of them from Manitoba with others coming from BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan and North Dakota.

Reimer and Sawatzky, both 23 and from Manitoba, were teammates last season at Canisius College in New York. Richardson, 27, drove up from Arizona and returns to baseball following a six-year absence from the game. He last played in 2003 as a junior at Oklahoma.

Workouts beginning Friday are open to the public and will run most days from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. One of the highlights of training camp happens Saturday when the players work out on the same day as the club's annual open house.

Forney and his coaching staff will put all the new and returning Goldeyes through their paces from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The players see their first exhibition action one week from today when they head to Fargo to face the RedHawks.
