Goldeyes Split Doubleheader with Milkmen

FRANKLIN, WI - The Winnipeg Goldeyes and Milwaukee Milkmen split a doubleheader at Franklin Field Tuesday. The Goldeyes won the opener 2-0, while Milwaukee took game two 5-0.

In game one, Winnipeg took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning when Najee Gaskins singled to centre field to bring home Hidekel Gonzalez.

The Goldeyes added another run in the fifth inning when Jordan Howard doubled into the left field corner so score Javeyan Williams.

Reliever Cam Opp was credited with the victory, with Landen Bourassa earning the save.

Starter Christian Young was charged with the loss for Milwaukee.

Milwaukee scored in four straight innings in the second game, starting in the bottom of the second when Drew Ward singled to centre field to score Cam Balego.

In the third frame, Rudy Martin drew a bases-loaded walk to force home Roy Morales with the game's second run.

The Milkmen took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning on an RBI single to right field that plated Gabriel Cancel.

Milwaukee rounded out the scoring with a pair of runs in the fifth inning. First Bryan Torres came in on Delvin Zinn's fielder's choice, then Aaron Hill scored on a throwing error to give the Milkmen a 5-0 lead.

Juan Echevarria earned the win for the Milkmen while Opp took the loss for Winnipeg.

The Goldeyes open the 2023 regular season on Thursday, May 11 on the road against the Gary SouthShore RailCats. Luis Ramirez (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will start for Winnipeg.

The home opener is scheduled for Friday, May 19 versus the Lake Country DockHounds at Shaw Park.
