NL Winnipeg Goldeyes

Goldeyes Slam RiverHawks 15-2

September 2, 2010 - Northern League (NL)
Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

Rain knocked out the second half of the doubleheader, so the Winnipeg Goldeyes made sure they got their fill of scoring in the first half.

Winnipeg scored seven times in the first inning and hammered the Rockford RiverHawks 15-2 in seven innings Thursday night in the only game of the scheduled doubleheader that was played.

The Goldeyes used six hits in the opening inning to score the seven runs and none came via the long ball. Eleven Fish batters came to the plate during the inning, chasing Rockford starter from the game after just two-thirds of an inning.

Juan Diaz, Luis Alen and Brett Wallace all hit home runs for Winnipeg. Diaz was a perfect four-for-four at the dish, scoring three runs and adding three RBI. Six of nine Goldeyes had multi-hit games.

Goldeyes starter Chris Salamida pitched a complete game for his 10th win of the season. He struck out seven and didn't allow a walk.

The second game of the doubleheader was cancelled due to rain. Because the Goldeyes and RiverHawks are out of playoff contention, the game will not be made up.

Winnipeg finishes the 2010 season with a three-game series in Schaumburg against the Flyers, which begins Friday night.
