Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
Kevin West has some company in the Winnipeg outfield.
Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced today the signing of outfielder Kurt Crowell. There are now 15 players on the pre-season roster, eight of whom are position players.
Crowell, 24, arrives after seeing a pretty good season cut short by a hand injury. While playing for Schaumburg, he was hit by an Aaron Trolia pitch during a July 16 loss to Joliet, sidelining him for the rest of the season. At the time, he was hitting .333 with three home runs and 22 runs batted in, posting .377 on-base and .556 slugging percentages for an impressive .933 OPS.
Prior to joining the Flyers, Crowell spent 68 games in the Milwaukee system after the Brewers drafted him in 2007 out of NCAA Div. II Cal State - Los Angeles.
As Crowell joined the Goldeyes, Forney released infielder Chad Ehrnsberger. A mid-season addition last year, Ehrnsberger batted .312 in 42 games for Winnipeg, but would have been classified as a Veteran this season.
Training camp opens May 1 at Canwest Park.
