Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
The Winnipeg Goldeyes will open the 2009 Northern League season this week with a combination of seasoned veterans and fresh-faced rookies.
Manager Rick Forney announced his opening day roster today. The 22 players named to the club are evenly split between pitchers and position players and will work out Wednesday afternoon in preparation of the season opener on Friday in Kansas City against the defending champion T-Bones. Game time is 7 p.m.
To pare his training camp roster down from 26 to the league maximum of 22, Forney made four moves today. He released pitcher Josh Sawatzky, catchers Kevin Reimer and Ryan Richardson and placed pitcher Matt Spade on the Disabled List. While not on the active roster, Richardson opted to remain with the club to act as its bullpen catcher.
Following their season-opening three-game set in Kansas City, the Goldeyes head for Fargo for three games to conclude a six-game road trip, returning to Canwest Park next Friday for their home opener against those same T-Bones. Game time is 7 p.m. and lots of great seats starting at just $5 are available at all Ticketmaster locations, including the ballpark box office, by calling 780-3333 or visiting ticketmaster.ca.
