Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

The Northern League handed out its final award today and, for the fourth time in seven years, the Goldeyes were saluted as Organization of the Year. Winnipeg is the only four-time winner since the award was first handed out in 2003.

"This is an award to be shared by everyone associated with the Goldeyes and I speak on behalf of the entire organization when I say we are honoured," said president and CEO Sam Katz. "From top to bottom, this is a very solid organization. It is part of a very strong league, one that will become stronger next year with the addition of two more teams and will become even stronger in the years to come as more and more fans get to know this amazing product we call Northern League baseball."

En route to making the playoffs for the fourteenth time in 16 seasons, the Goldeyes drew 278,099 fans in 45 home games to lead the Northern League in attendance for the tenth-straight year. In terms of average attendance, Winnipeg's per-game total of 6,180 was highest among all 63 teams in independent baseball, the tenth-straight year they'd earned that distinction.

In their 11 years at Canwest Park, the Goldeyes have played to more than three million fans during the regular season.

"To know you do a good job is one thing, but when you are told this by your Northern League brethren, it becomes something else entirely," said general manager Andrew Collier. "Each and every person that works for the Goldeyes, from our full-time staff to our game-day staff, had a hand in winning this award and it's a tribute to all that they do to have once again been recognized. It's also a tribute to our amazing fans, for without them, we wouldn't even be here."

Voting for the award was conducted by managers, coaches, players, radio announcers, media and general managers.

Earlier this month, pitcher Ace Walker, second baseman Josh Asanovich and designated hitter Juan Diaz were named to the Northern League All-Star Team. Three days later, Adam Frost took home NL Rookie of the Year honours. The following day, general manager Andrew Collier earned his fifth NL Executive of the Year award in eight years. Finally, just yesterday, Walker was named NL Pitcher of the Year.
