Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

Training camp may not start for the Winnipeg Goldeyes until Thursday, but the unofficial start of training camp is actually taking place today.

Of the 26 players on the training camp roster, 25 underwent their physical beginning at 8:30 this morning at the Pan Am Clinic. Rookie pitcher Ivan Hernandez stayed in Grand Forks last night and was expected to make his 10:30 appointment while first baseman Donnie Ross is still in school and will join the club in Fargo this weekend.

The 26 players are split evenly between pitchers and position players. And, of the 13 position players, three are catchers while the other 10 are split evenly between infielders and outfielders.

Camp opens at 10 a.m. Thursday and will run until roughly 1:00 p.m. The club will follow the same routine on Friday before hitting the road Saturday morning for games in Fargo that night and Sunday afternoon then heading to St. Paul for games on Monday and Tuesday.

Winnipeg returns home early next Wednesday to resume daily workouts and will open its home exhibition schedule at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 14 against St. Paul. The Saints are here again on the Sunday for a 1:30 p.m. start.

Back in camp for one more day on Monday, May 16, the Goldeyes will conclude their pre-season hosting Fargo-Moorhead at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17 and 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 18. They head to Fargo on May 19 to open the regular season on Friday, May 20 against the RedHawks at Newman Outdoor Field.

Following the season-opening road trip to Fargo and Lincoln, Winnipeg plays its home opener on Friday, May 27 at 7 p.m. against Sioux City. That game, as well as all pre-season and regular season contests, can be heard on 1290 AM CFRW.
