Goldeyes Add Hodges & Wallace

January 12, 2010 - Northern League (NL)
Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

Goldeyes manager Rick Forney continues to be a very busy man.

Forney announced today the signing of right-handed pitcher Casey Hodges. At the same time, catcher Brett Wallace was added to the roster, bringing to 15 the number of players under contract for the 2010 season, six of whom are pitchers.

Hodges, 24, arrives following two seasons in the Braves system. Able to start or pitch out of the bullpen, he is a career 6-5 with a 3.92 earned run average, including a 2-0 mark last year with a 2.75 ERA on a Danville squad that rolled to an Appalachian League title.

Wallace, 27, is no stranger to Northern League fans, having played the last three seasons in Gary. Acquired last week from Lake County, he is a career.270 hitter that wields a solid glove behind the plate, committing just seven errors in 848 total chances for a.992 fielding percentage.

The pair join pitchers Zach Baldwin, Antony Bello, Austin Donmoyer, Ian Thomas and Ace Walker, infielders Josh Asanovich, Juan Diaz, Vince Harrison and Wes Long and outfielders Dee Brown, Aharon Eggleston, Lee Ellis and Cory Patton on the 2010 roster. Training camp opens May 7.

FISH FOOD: Winnipeg swapped catchers today with River City of the Frontier League, sending the rights to Jeff DeSmidt to the Rascals for the rights to Joe Billick.
