Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
WINNIPEG, MB - The Winnipeg Goldeyes announced Wednesday the acquisition and signing of first baseman Jake Guenther.
Guenther was obtained from the Frontier League's Lake Erie Crushers November 20 in exchange for a player to be named later.
The 27-year-old hit .272 for the Crushers last season, with 16 doubles, four home runs, and 37 runs batted in.
Guenther was selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the seventh round of the 2019 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft out of Texas Christian University (Fort Worth, Texas).
After one season in the Rays' system, Guenther was signed by the Texas Rangers, with whom he played two seasons at the Class-A Advanced level with the South Atlantic League's Hickory Crawdads.
The native of Oshkosh, Wisconsin batted .344 for the Pioneer League's Missoula PaddleHeads in 2023, with eight home runs and 77 RBIs.
"Jake is a guy I've had on my radar for a while," said Goldeyes manager Logan Watkins. "He was at TCU when I was with Cleburne, so he was someone we considered signing but it didn't end up happening. I'm happy to see he's had a successful start to his professional career and our paths are finally crossing in Winnipeg. Fans should expect a plus defender coupled with a good, competitive approach at the plate."
Winnipeg now has eight players under contract for the 2025 season. American Association clubs may carry up to 33 players during spring training, which begins April 26.
