Glens Falls Dragons News Release
The Glens Falls Golden Eagles continued their winning streak tonight with an 11-7 win over the Albany Dutchmen at home and move to 20 and 17 (4 and 4 versus the Albany Dutchmen). The Golden Eagles were able to get two home runs that 'iced' the game for them, one of which was a tiebreaking grand slam in the third inning by Kevin Meyers.
The game was a slow but steady one in the early innings with each team accumulating at least a run in the first three innings, off of seven total hits.
Going into the third bottom of the third it was tied at three when the bases were loaded for Meyers. He hadn't hit a home run since the first week of the season but he connected on a pitch from Albany starter Cody Tollison, eventually his last, and sent it deep to left field for the Golden Eagles first grand slam of the season.
The Dutchmen struck back in the fourth and cut the lead 7-5 thanks to a couple base hits, passed balls, and steals from Jared Martin and Mike Triller. After the runs had scored Golden Eagles starter Cory Folk was replaced by reliever Wes Judish who pitched one of his best performances of the season. He went five full innings and only gave up four hits for one unearned run in the sixth.
As for the Golden Eagles offense, they kept a steady pace recording two runs in the fourth off of a solo home run from Danny Brennan and a few base hits from the team, an RBI single from Mike Vigliarolo to plate Alberto Morales in the sixth, and an RBI double by Brennan in the seventh.
With the Golden Eagles leading 11-6 in the top of the ninth, the Dutchmen tried to break into closer Jared Cheek. Zach Remillard connected for a lead off solo home run but that was as close as they would get. With two outs and Morgan Phillips on second, Martin had a base hit and Phillips tried to come home. Buddy Putnam threw one right on the money to get Phillips for the final out of the inning and game.
The Golden Eagles move into third place in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League thanks to a Newark Pilots loss, while the Dutchmen drop to sixth because of the Oneonta Outlaws getting the win at home.
