Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs News Release

The Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs returned home Thursday night after a short three game road trip.

The DiamondDawgs sent Evan Davis 0-1, 6.33 ERA to the mound and he went only four innings giving up five hits, five runs (four earned), issued four walks and struck out four. The loss went to Nathan Harrell (Hinds C.C.) who pitched 2/3 of an inning and gave up four hits, three runs, walked two and struck out three. Taylor Wright (Brown) worked 2 2/3 innings and gave up three hits and picked up two strikeouts as the DiamondDawgs dropped three straight losing 8-0.

Davis worked a quick first inning when he struck out the first batter and walked one and then forced a double play to end the inning but ran into trouble in the second inning when he allowed five runs. A series of walks, an error and a wild pitch coupled with a key double by Josh Nethaway (UAlbany) and singles by Jeff Limbaugh (Parkland) and Ed Charlton (NJIT) led to the big inning.

The Mohawks struck again in the seventh when Brian Ruby's (Binghamton) RBI single brought home the sixth run for the Mohawks who led 6-0. Another two runs scored on a Jeff Limbaugh (Parkland) fielders' choice and a sacrifice fly by Demarcus Henderson (Mississippi State).

The Mohawks starter Chandler Shepherd 5-0, 1.35 ERA pitched eight innings giving up one hit, two walks, hit a batter and struck out nine. Shepherd took care of the first thirteen batters he faced and then an error and two walks ended his perfect game bid. In the bottom of the sixth a questionable call on a Chris Cruz (Cornell) bunt single ended the no-hit bid. Dan Zlotnick (Marist) finished up with an inning of work and hit a batter and struck out one. The only hit of the game by the DiamondDawgs was Cruz's questionable bunt single.

Leading the Mohawks in hitting was Zak Colby (Faulkner) who went 3 for 5 with a run scored and Jeff Limbaugh (Parkland) was 3 for 4 with a run scored and three RBI. Ed Charlton (NJIT) added two RBI on a 1 for 4 night. Jeff Boehm (Kentucky) was 1 for 2 with an RBI and run scored, Chase Green (SIU Edwardsville) was 1 for 3 with a run scored and Josh Nethaway (UAlbany) added an RBI double and a run scored in a 1 for 5 performance 1 for 5 with while Demarcus Henderson (Mississippi State) added an RBI in his 1 for 3 night.

The DiamondDawgs are home Friday night against the Oneonta Outlaws for a 7:05 game.
