GoFundMe Raises Money for Mark Haley
April 18, 2024 - Midwest League (MWL)
South Bend Cubs News Release
Mark Haley has long been a staple of the South Bend community. As Manager of the Silver Hawks from 2005-2014, 'Hales' was three times named the Midwest League Manager of the Year, while making the playoffs eight times, and wining one Championship. Haley first came to South Bend as a coach of the White Sox (1991-92) and returned again with the Silver Hawks in 1995.
Now, Haley is left to battle through a tough recovery process, far greater than any on the diamond. One month ago, he endured a subdural hematoma post-surgery to repair a cerebrospinal fluid or CSF leak. This resulted in a life-or-death medical emergency which required five brain surgeries. He had spent over 6 weeks in intensive care and now has to do some extensive rehabilitation. While the surgeries saved his life, this has left him and his family fighting an uphill physical, emotional, and financial battle.
Hales is beloved by this community. As the South Bend Cubs Foundation Executive Director he's been instrumental in revitalizing baseball participation from kids in Michiana and teaching them lessons along the way that will help them in both the game of baseball and in life.
The path forward for Mark and his wife Ann will be grueling and there are many questions left still unanswered. But their friends and family came together to create a GoFundMe and we at the South Bend Cubs are spreading the word to help raise money for a man who has been monumental to our organization and city over the last three decades.
We are all coming together to try to ease the financial burden on Ann and bring the type of support and love to Mark Haley that he's always shown us. Any and every type of donation is greatly appreciated and will go a long way for Hales and his family.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Haley family during this trying time.
