Gober Guides Sixth Straight, Calgary Wins Game One, 2-1

Getting five and a third scoreless innings from starting pitcher Dusty Gober the Calgary Vipers (44-24) defeated the Lake County Fielders (27-35) 2-1 in the first half of a double-header featuring two seven inning games at Fielders Stadium in Zion, Illinois. Gober (6-2) limited the Fielders to five hits while also striking out five batters. Mike Burns took over in the sixth inning and retired both batters he faced while Claudio Galva (18) recorded the save by recording the last two outs with the tying run at third base. At the plate Chad Ehrnsberger and Jonny Kaplan both collected two hits and knocked in a run each. With the victory the Vipers remain atop the North Division with a four games lead.

In the top of the second inning Calgary grabbed a 1-0 lead as C.J. Ziegler and Ehrnsberger collected back-to-back doubles.

The Vipers made it 2-0 in the top of the seventh when Drew Miller and Bryan Burke walked while with two outs Kaplan singled for a run batted in.

Lake County grabbed a run back for a 2-1 final in the bottom of the seventh frame as Zach Getsee and Travis Weaver collected back-to-back doubles to lead off the inning. After a sacrifice bunt Weaver was left at third base to end the game.

The Vipers continue this series in Illinois against the Lake County Fielders with Game 2 of the double-header on Sunday August 7th 3:00 PM MDT.

The Vipers return home to Calgary and Foothills Stadium on Friday August 12th at 6:30 to take on the Chico Outlaws.
