Wailuku, HI - The Edmonton Capitals got back to their winning ways and snapped a short two-game losing skid with a 5-3 win over Maui Na Koa Ikaika on Saturday night in game five of their lengthy nine-game road series.
The Caps hitting came scattered between eight batters throughout the game, six of which only had one hit apiece as left fielder Todd Linden and right fielder Brent Metheny were the only players to pick up two hits. Catcher J.D. Closser, shortstop Rex Rundgren and first baseman Lou Santangelo each earned one RBI, while their other two runs were scored on Maui errors.
The Caps pitching crew had a decent night on the mound, only surrendering six hits and three runs. Andrew Arreola got the start and pitched the first 4.1 innings, allowing five hits and two runs. Jorge Vasquez came on in relief and pitched 2.1 innings, giving up one hit and one run, eventually earning the win. And Tom Boleska was also sharp with five strikeouts and no runs or hits surrendered in the final 2.1 innings to pick up the save.
With another win in Maui, the Caps' record improves to 39-27 on the North American League season, but they still remain 3.5 games back of the first-place Calgary Vipers (43-24) who are currently riding a five-game win streak.
