
Goaltender Vitek Vanecek Named to ECHL All-Rookie Team

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC- The South Carolina Stingrays announced today that goaltender Vitek Vanecek has been named to the ECHL All-Rookie Team.
Vanecek, 20, has posted a record of 17-7-5-1 in 31 appearances with the Stingrays this season. He boasts the fourth best goals-against average in the ECHL at 2.09, and ranks sixth among rookie goaltenders with a .914 save percentage. Vanecek has recorded three shutouts this season and is 10-0-3-0 in his past 13 starts.
The native of Havlickuv Brod, Czech Republic was also named the CCM Hockey ECHL Rookie of the Month in November, the CCM Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for March 7-13, and the Warrior Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Month for March.
Vanecek, a second-round selection (39th overall) of the Washington Capitals in the 2014 NHL Draft, participated in the 2016 World Junior Championships for his native Czech Republic earlier this year.
Vanecek is joined by defensemen Jacob MacDonald (Elmira Jackals) and Ben Marshall (Indy Fuel), as well as forwards Dan DeSalvo (Tulsa Oilers), Cason Hohmann (Elmira Jackals) and Matt Willows (Florida Everblades) on the ECHL All-Rookie Team. The team was as determined in a vote of ECHL coaches, broadcasters, media relations directors and media.
The Stingrays finish the regular season on the road this week. The club visits Atlanta tonight at 7:05 p.m. before heading to Norfolk for a pair of contests on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 7:15 p.m. The Stingrays have already clinched a spot in the 2016 Kelly Cup Playoffs and the club released home dates for the opening round of the playoffs yesterday. The club will host Game 4 of the 2016 Kelly Cup Playoffs Eastern Conference Quarterfinals at the North Charleston Coliseum on Thursday, April 21 at 7:05 p.m. The club will also host Games 5, 6 and 7, if necessary.
