Savannah Sand Gnats News Release
SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Savannah Sand Gnats took advantage of five Charleston errors in a 6-4 win over the RiverDogs Tuesday night at Historic Grayson Stadium. With its fifth straight victory, Savannah earned its first series sweep of the season.
John Lambert threw six innings en route to his second win of the year, allowing three runs, two earned, on four hits while fanning six batters. Bryan Lambert, Jr. came out of the pen in the seventh and threw two innings of no-hit ball. Coby Mavroulis earned his first save of the season, striking out two in the ninth.
After falling behind in the early innings, the Gnats knotted the score at three with two runs in the fifth on a pair of unearned runs. Edgardo Baez ripped an RBI single in the inning, extending his hitting streak to a team-best 11 games.
Savannah grabbed a one-run lead an inning later when Tim Pahuta led off with a triple to straightaway center and scored on an RBI single off the bat of Jose Contreras.
The Gnats tacked on two big insurance runs in the seventh in the form of a deep two-run homer off the bat of Dee Brown. The long ball broke an 11-game homerless streak for Savannah that dated back to May 19 vs. Columbus.
The Sand Gnats are next in action Thursday at 7:05 p.m., hosting the first-place Rome Braves for four games. Savannah is scheduled to start left-hander Gene Yost while the Braves will counter with lefty Beau Jones. Thursday is Thirsty Thursday, presented by Papa John's, featuring $1 slices of Papa John's pizza and half-price beer.
