Glens Falls Dragons News Release

After the Hawkeyes were able to come back in last night's game at Cooperstown, the same could not be said when they came to Glens Falls for a doubleheader with the Golden Eagles.

The Golden Eagles began the game with a one, two, three inning from Brandon Magallones and followed up with a run in the bottom of the inning. Eric Gregory of Cooperstown had a less than stellar performance in his second outing of the season, walking eight and surrendering eight runs on only four hits through only 2.1 innings.

Leading 8-1 when Gregory exited the game the Golden Eagles didn't stop there. In the fourth inning Alberto Morales hit his first home run of the season to put the team up one more run. Two RBI singles from Casey Rodrigue and Chase Griffin in the fifth put the game almost out of reach for Cooperstown. Then, for added measure, Mike Vigliarolo hit a three-run homer, his second in two days, to ice the game at 14-1 in the fifth.

Cooperstown capitalized on four errors in the seventh and plated three unearned runs against Golden Eagles reliever Jordan Keysor. It wasn't enough as Jacob Hubart grounded out to Chris King for the unassisted final out of the game with the final score 14-4.

After a half hour break, Cooperstown came into the second game in hopes of regrouping. Head Coach John Mayotte and the Golden Eagles had other plans. Glens Falls jumped ahead early in the first inning on an RBI double off of the bat of Chase Griffin (Georgia Southern). The Golden Eagles added two more runs in the bottom half of the first off of an error by the Hawkeyes third basemen Quinn Pippin (Tulane).

Casey Rodrigue (LSU Eunice) led off the 2nd inning for Glens Falls with a double into the gap, allowing himself to eventually score. Mike Vigliarolo (St. Louis) followed adding a two run single making the score 6-0, Glens Falls. Alberto Morales (Clarendon College) doubled before the end of the 2nd making the score 7-0 early.

The Hawkeyes responded by scoring two runs in the top half of the third on consecutive sacrifice flies by Ty Morris (Cal State Monterey Bay) and Matt Carr (SUNY New Paltz), which would ultimately account for two of the four runs Cooperstown would be able manage throughout the night.

Chase Griffin would provide some extra offense for Glens Falls driving in two more runs in the bottom half of the third inning on a two run single, increasing the Golden Eagles lead to 10-2 and knocking the starting pitcher Andrew Grann (SUNY New Paltz) out of the game early. The defensive lapses continued for the Hawkeyes as the game progressed. Ross Kivett and Chase Griffin each crossed the plate as a product of yet another Hawkeyes error. A total of five unearned runs were given up by Cooperstown through just three innings.

Kevin Meyers (Northeastern Oklahoma A&M) and Danny Brennan each added doubles to the stat sheet for Glens Falls, while Matt Kaldon (SUNY New Paltz) recorded a double for the Cooperstown Hawkeyes.

Getting the win for the Golden Eagles was Jake Dollar (Kansas State). On the other hand, Andrew Grann was the losing pitcher for the Hawkeyes. Glens Falls improved to 10-9 on the summer while Cooperstown dropped to 6-13. The Golden Eagles host the Newark Pilots this Thursday, June 28th, at 7:00 PM while Cooperstown will be traveling to Elmira to play the Pioneers for a 7:05 PM game. Both of which are sure to be entertaining ball games!
