Oneonta Outlaws News Release

The Oneonta Outlaws four game win streak came to an end at Damaschke Field on Wednesday evening with a 4-3 loss to the visiting Newark Pilots.

The Outlaws starting pitcher Taylor Hicks (Georgia) threw six innings, allowing four runs, three earned, off eight hits. Jeremy Rhodes (Illinois State) came out of the bullpen in the seventh, followed by Ben Mordini (Utah) in the ninth.

Meanwhile, on offense, the Outlaw hitters were challenged by Newark pitching all night. Zac Johnson (Illinois State) led Oneonta with three hits, a walk and one run. Oneonta hoped to rally in the eighth inning with two runners on base and two outs, but Lucas Leifield (Grand Canyon) hard line shot to third was snagged by Tyler McDonald (Millersville) to prevent any runs from scoring. Two of Oneonta's runs were unearned coming off two Newark errors in the bottom of the fifth.

The Pilots offense was paced by Ben Bostick (St. John Fisher) who had two hits, one run, an RBI and one stolen base. Joe Landi (Rhode Island) chipped in with two hits and a run. Newark picked up the deciding run in the sixth inning off an outfield throwing error.

For the Outlaws, Taylor Hicks was the pitcher of record picking up the second loss against no wins. Austin McAuliffe (New Jersey Institute of Technology) earned the win for Newark.

The line score for the evening was Newark 4 runs, 8 hits and 3 errors, and for Oneonta 3 runs, 8 hits and 2 errors.

The Outlaws play Watertown on Thursday at Damaschke Field with a 7:00 pm start.
