Outlaws Enter Break with Win

The Oneonta Outlaws maintained a strong position in the PGCBL peleton for playoff contention with a 6 to 3 win over the visiting Glen Falls Golden Eagles at Damaschke Field Monday night. The game was played under threatening skies with the wind having an impact on a number of outfield flies.
Nathaniel Abel (Virginia) picked up his second victory of the year allowing nine hits and two runs in seven innings on the mound. The Golden Eagles made it interesting by loading up the bases and bringing one run across off relief pitcher Nick Cioffi (Towson) in the eigth, with Cioffi returning in the ninth to pick up his fourth save of the season. The Golden Eagle offense was paced by Alberto Morales (Clarendon) with two hits, two RBI, one run and a walk. Chase Griffin (Georgia Southern), Ross Kivett (Kansas State) and Danny Brennan (Saint Louis) each contributed multiple hits in the losing effort.
The Outlaw offense got off to a fast start with four runs and four hits, along with two stolen bases, in the bottom of the first setting up a lead they would not relinquish. Ryan Peterson (Yavapai) was charged with the loss for Glens Falls.
Zach Lucas (Louisville) provided the early fireworks with a two run home run. Orlando Rivera (State College of Florida) added three hits, one run, one RBI and a stolen base. Leadoff batter Omar Garcia (State College of Florida) had two singles, two runs and added two more stolen bases to his season total of 23. Zac Johnson (Illinois State) enjoyed a good night with two hits, two runs and one RBI.
Line score for the evening was Glens Falls 3 runs, 13 hits and one error and Oneonta 6 runs, 11 hits and one error, in 2:23.
The PGCBL will take an All Star break on Tuesday in Amsterdam. The Outlaws return to Damaschke on Friday night in a non-league match against the New Rochelle Athletics. Game time is 7:00pm.
