Glens Falls Dragons News Release

GLENS FALLS, N.Y.-The Glens Falls Dragons (10-10) came into Thursday night's PGCBL game at East Field riding a three game winning streak, including a double-header sweep over the Albany Dutchmen (8-11) 24 hours earlier. The Dragons remained hot as they defeated the Dutchmen 12-3 to win their season high fourth straight contest. Matthew Stojkov (Saginaw Valley State) earned the win on the mound for Glens Falls. Chris Amorosi (Siena) suffered the loss for Albany.

Glens Falls jumped in front quickly as Zach McIlroy (Anderson University) doubled sharply down the right field line in the bottom of the first to drive in Danny Oliveri (Triton College) to make it 1-0. Oscar Rodriguez (St. Thomas University) then made it back to back doubles for the Dragons as he drove in McIlroy to give Glens Falls a two run lead. Tyler Phillips (Herkimer CC) also picked up an RBI on an infield single to give the Dragons a 3-0 lead after one full inning of play.

Glens Falls increased their lead in the fourth when Rich Guglielmi (Saginaw Valley State) blasted a solo homer over the left field wall to lead off the frame. Oscar Rodriguez, Jake Vieth (Tacoma CC), Tyler Phillips and Donovan Christman (Lynn University) also drove in runs for the Dragons as they pulled out to an 8-0 lead.

Meanwhile Stojkov was in complete control. He went six innings for the Dragons, yielding just one hit, while striking out five and walking two. Albany did load the bases against the right-hander in the third with a single by Eric Mueller (University of Albany) and a pair of walks, before Stojkov closed the door.

In the sixth Glens Falls tacked on more runs. The Dragons loaded the bases on a walk and a pair of Dutchmen errors, before Christman unleashed a three run double to the left-center gap to make it an 11 run margin.

Albany broke up the shutout as they again loaded the bases in the top of the seventh. Glens Falls reliever Mike McFerran (Lynn University) walked in a run, and then Patrick Hisle (University of Maryland) and Grayson Lewis (Rice University) picked up RBIs to cut the deficit to 11-3, before McFerran worked out of the jam.

Christman led Glens Falls, going 2 for 3 with 4 RBIs. Rodriguez was 2 for 3, driving in a pair of runs, while Phillips added a pair of RBIs. Vieth finished the game 2 for 4, while Oliveri was 2 for 5 for the Dragons.

Glens Falls travels to Saugerties to meet the Stallions on Friday evening at 6:35 p.m. before returning to East Field Saturday night to take on the Amsterdam Mohawks at 7:00 p.m.
