Newark only allows three hits, downs Diamond Dawgs 6-0

On Wednesday night at the Smith Sports Complex in Boonville, the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs racked up 14 hits and eight runs in an excruciating 17-inning victory over the Adirondack Trail Blazers that went into the wee hours of Thursday morning.
18 hours later, it was evident the Diamond Dawgs couldn't shake off the rust from the night before, as the Newark Pilots held them to three hits and shut out the Diamond Dawgs, 6-0.
The Pilots would strike first in the top of the fourth inning. After Newark starter Logan Harasta (Webster, New York/University at Buffalo)and Mohawk Valley starting pitcher Marc Iseneker (Sherrill, New York/St. John Fisher College) would only give up one hit (Diamond Dawg shortstop Colin Hawk's (Beech Grove, Indiana/University of Indianapolis) single in the first) through three innings, the Pilots would strike first in a big way. William Gorman (Nassau, New York/RIT) would blast a solo home run to right-center field to put the Pilots up by one.
Newark would put another ball in the stands at Veteran's Memorial Park in the fifth inning. Frankie Gregoire (Simsbury, Connecticut/Marist College), who was last on the team in batting average coming into the game (.053), sent a long bomb into the same area Gorman did to put the Pilots up by two.
Gorman would continue to burn the Diamond Dawgs in the sixth, as he looped a double into left field to score Willy Yahn (Sharon, Connecticut/University of Connecticut).
Yahn would get his own run in the top of the eighth, as he would hit a long fly ball to left field that would score Cody Witkorski (Penfield, New York/St. John Fisher).
The Pilots would extend their run in the top of the ninth inning, as a long double by Michael Lanza (Elmsford, New York/Bryant University) would score Gregoire. Kyle Norman (Ellicott City, Maryland/University of San Francisco) would get into the scoring as well for Newark, as he would hit a long fly ball to left that would net him a double as well and score Lanza.
Closer Vinny Martin (Yonkers, New York/Iona College) would come in for the Pilots in the bottom of the ninth. He would set the Diamond Dawgs down in order to shut the door for Newark in Little Falls.
Harasta would get the win for the Pilots, who raise their record to 7-10. Iseneker would get his second loss, dropping him to 0-2 and dropping the Diamond Dawgs to 9-10.
Mohawk Valley takes another road trip to start the final weekend of June. They will start with a trip to Shuttleworth Park to start another chapter in the Patriot Bank Cup against the Amsterdam Mohawks. The Pilots will head back to Colburn Park to host the Victor RailRiders in the first half of a home-and-home series.
