Glens Falls Dragons News Release

The Glens Falls Dragons (13-17) were looking to extend their five game winning streak Friday night at East Field against the Oneonta Outlaws. The Dragons got a little help from Mother Nature who intervened with a thunderstorm in the top of the seventh that eventually forced the game to be called, with Glens Falls be awarded a 4-0 win.

Glens Falls jumped out to the lead in the first inning off of Oneonta starter Jack McLaughlin (Presbyterian). Ryan Hooper (Cal-Davis) legged out an infield hit, then went to second and third on a wild pitch and a passed ball. Chris Kwitzer (U. of Buffalo) then blasted a double off of the center field fence to plate Hooper for the 1-0 Dragon's lead.

Kwitzer struck again in the bottom of the third. The big left-hander took McLaughlin deep, clearing the right-center field fence for a two-run homer to make it 3-0 Dragons. It was the fourth home run of the season for Kwitzer, and his third in three nights.

The Dragons added a run in the fifth, and again Kwitzer was a part of it. Kwitzer reached base by beating out an infield chopper with one out. Kwitzer would then steal second, and come around to score on a Drew Greenwood (Bellarmine) base hit to give Glens Falls a four run lead.

Glens Falls only managed five hits off of Outlaw's pitchers, but it turned out to be enough. Kwitzer drove in three of the four runs, while Greenwood picked up the other RBI.

Andrew Knuessle (Canisius) (2-2) picked up his second straight win for the Dragons. Knuessle pitched five and two thirds innings of shutout ball, while yielding just two hits. He struck out five and walked just one.

McLaughlin (0-1) suffered the loss for Oneonta.

Glens Falls travels to Albany to face the Dutchmen Saturday night, and then return home for a double-header Sunday against Mohawk Valley. The first pitch for Sunday's twin bill is 5:00 P.M.
