Gladiators Training Camp Day 5 Standouts: Joshua Rue and Tony Newson

Las Vegas, NV- Gladiators Head Coach Danton Barto has continued to be surprised by the level of skill on the roster. Each day during training camp Coach Barto has continued to evaluate a player from offense and defense that he has felt stood out in practice that particular day, yesterday in camp FB Joshua Rue and LB Tony Newson took the spotlight.
FB Joshua Rue
"He had a great day yesterday" said Head Coach Danton Barto. "He is doing a really good job in our protection. He also has the ability to be a threat in the running game".
Joshua Rue (6"4, 248) is no stranger to Coach Barto, he played for him in Memphis with the Xplorers of the af2. Rue graduated from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. Rue has also played in the NFL for the Arizona Cardinals in 2003.
LB Tony Newson
"Local product Tony had a very solid day yesterday. He is a high energy guy that competes hard on every play. That is the type of player we are looking for at that position" said Coach Barto.
Tony Newson (6"1, 247) is one of two (Eddie Canonico) Las Vegas locals on the roster. He graduated from Utah State and has spent time in the NFL with the St. Louis Rams and Kansas City Chiefs. He will be entering his first season in the Arena Football League.
Overall
"Overall the team came out and had a good day of competing at practice. I am very impressed day in and day out by this teams competitiveness" remarked Coach Barto.
Training camp is open to the public and practices are held outside the Orleans Arena. The first practice begins at 9:30am-11:30am and the second practice goes from 2:45pm-4:45pm.
The Official Las Vegas Gladiators Booster Club, The Gladiaddicts are hosting a tailgating party on Sunday February 11th at 2pm during the second practice, which begins at 2:45 outside the Orleans Arena.
