Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The ECHL announced today that Gladiators forward Brad Schell has been named the ECHL MVP for the 2006-07 season. The annual award is presented to the ECHL player adjudged to be the most valuable to his team as voted by the coaches of the ECHL teams. Jeff Campbell of Gwinnett captured the honor in 2005-06 making the Gladiators the only team since Erie in 1988-89 with Daryl Harpe and 1989-90 with Bill McDougall to have back-to-back winners.
Schell is the first player to post over 100 points since Buddy Smith of the Arkansas Riverblades finished the 2002-03 season with 104 points. Schell finished the 2006-07 season with 110 points to share 24th overall for most points in an ECHL season.
Schell posted career highs in both goals, with 25, and assists, with 85, on the year. His 85 assists ranks 4th all time in the ECHL for most assists in a season while it set a new all time Gladiators team (franchise) record in that category. Schell's 110 points was also a new all time Gladiators team (franchise) record for points in a season.
The Scott, Saskatchewan native broke his career best point scoring streak twice during the season as he had a point in 15 straight games from November 25th through December 30th. He then broke that mark with a point in 16 straight games from February 2nd through March 16th.
Schell has posted 36 multiple point games for the Gladiators while tying a career high with 5 points (1g, 4a) for the Gladiators in an 8-3 win at South Carolina on October 29th. In addition, he led the ECHL in scoring in December and was named the ECHL Player of the Month for December finishing with 8 goals and 22 assists for 30 points.
The third year pro remains on call up with the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League where he has posted 2 goals and 2 assists for 4 points in 9 AHL games this season.
Schell was also named the captain of the American Conference squad for the 2007 ECHL All Star Game in Boise, ID. He collected a goal for the American Conference in a 6-3 win.
