
Gladiators Release 2009-10 Schedule

Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today the team's schedule for the 2009-2010 season. The Gladiators 72 game regular season schedule opens at the Arena at Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Georgia on Saturday, October 17, 2009 against the Wheeling Nailers and concludes on Saturday, April 3, 2010 against the division rival South Carolina Stingrays.
The Gladiators 72 game schedule will again include 36 home games and 36 road games.
Twenty-eight of the Gladiators 36 home games are weekend dates with nine Friday games, 12 on Saturday and seven games on Sunday. Breaking down the Gladiators home schedule by month, there are three games in October, seven in November, six in December, five in January, six in February, seven in March and two in April.
For the seventh straight season, the Gladiators will play on Thanksgiving Night, Thursday, November 26th at 7:05 p.m. Gwinnett has average over 5,500 fans on the Annual Thanksgiving holiday match up during the team's first six seasons at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
The Gladiators will have a pair of home games around the Christmas Holiday on Saturday, December 26th at 7:05 p.m. and on Sunday, December 27th at 4:05 p.m. In addition, the Gladiators will again play a special Monday Matinee on Monday, January 18th at 12:30 p.m.
The Gladiators will face the Kalamazoo Wings and the Toldeo Walleye, who both begin their first season in the ECHL this year. Gwinnett will host the Walleye for a pair of games on Friday, February 5, 2010 and Saturday, February 6, 2010. Kalamazoo will make its only trip to the Arena at Gwinnett Center on Friday, November 6, 2009. Gwinnett will also travel to Kalamazoo for four games and visit Toledo once.
With 12 teams in the American Conference this season, Gwinnett will face each team in the conference at least once during the regular season. Gwinnett will face Wheeling four times (2 home, 2 road), South Carolina sixteen times (8 home, 8 road), Charlotte eighteen times (9 home, 9 road), Kalamazoo five times (1 home, 4 road), Florida fourteen times (7 home, 7 road), Elmira four times (2 home, 2 road), Toledo three times (2 home, 1 away), Reading three times (1 home, 2 away), Trenton three times at home, Johnstown once on the road and Cincinati once at home.
The start times for the Gladiators games will remain unchanged for the 2009-10 season with Friday games beginning at 7:35 p.m., Sunday games at 4:05 p.m. and Saturday games as well as Monday thru Thursday games starting at 7:05 p.m. except the Gladiators January 18th MLK Kids Day Education game which will start at 12:30 p.m.
Began in 1988-89 with five teams playing in four states, the Premier 'AA' Hockey League has grown into a coast-to-coast league that is the third-longest tenured professional hockey league behind only the National Hockey League and the American Hockey League. The ECHL averaged 4,174 per game last season, marking the fourth year in row and the 16th time in the last 18 years that the league has averaged over 4,000 fans. The league has drawn over four million fans each of the last five years and 11 times in the past 12 seasons.

The Gladiators are the AA affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers and Chicago Blackhawks and play all home games at the spectacular 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth, where parking is always free.
