Auffrey Joins Gladiators

The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that they have agreed to terms with forward Matt Auffrey for the 2009-10 season.

Auffrey joins the Gladiators for his third professional season. He split time last year between the Augusta Lynx, Florida Everblades and Dayton Bombers. Auffrey combined for 13 goals and 29 assists for 42 points in 68 games in the ECHL last season. Auffrey also collected an assist in two AHL games last season with the Albany River Rats.

The Cincinnati, Ohio native appeared in all 72 games with the Augusta Lynx during the 2007-08 season. He had 25 goals and 25 assists for 50 points with the Augusta during his rookie campaign. He also notched 4 points in five Kelly Cup Playoff games with the Lynx in 2008.

Auffrey played parts of two seasons with the University of Wisconsin before heading to the Ontario Hockey League. After appearing in one game with Wisconsin during the 2005-06 season, Auffrey colleced 50 points in 29 games with the Kitchener Rangers of the OHL. He then split time in his last Junior season in the OHL in 2006-07 with Kitchener, Brampton and Kingston.

Auffrey was drafted by the Anaheim Mighty Ducks in the 6th round of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft with the 172nd overall pick.

Began in 1988-89 with five teams playing in four states, the Premier 'AA' Hockey League has grown into a coast-to-coast league that is the third-longest tenured professional hockey league behind only the National Hockey League and the American Hockey League. The ECHL averaged 4,174 per game last season, marking the fourth year in row and the 16th time in the last 18 years that the league has averaged over 4,000 fans. The league has drawn over four million fans each of the last five years and 11 times in the past 12 seasons.
