
Gladiators open up 2023-24 season with a win

DULUTH, Ga. The Atlanta Gladiators (1-0-0-0) scored three times in the second period to open the 2023-24 season with a 4-2 victory over the Savannah Ghost Pirates (1-1-0-0) on Saturday evening at Gas South Arena, in Duluth, Georgia.
First Star: Alex Whelan (ATL) - 2 goals
Second Star: Micah Miller (ATL) - 1 goal, 1 assist
Third Star: Jack Matier (ATL) - 1 goal, 1 assist
Micah Miller opened the 2023-24 season scoring for the Atlanta Gladiators with his first professional goal to make the score 1-0 (8:59).
Atlanta doubled their lead less than 30-seconds later to make it 2-0 (9:22). Jack Matier picked up his first professional goal to put the Gladiators ahead by two.
The Ghost Pirates cut the Gladiators lead in half just past the midway point of the second period (12:54).
Alex Whelan scored his first goal as a Gladiator to renew the two-goal lead for the Atlanta, making it 3-1 (15:56).
Savannah pulled within one-goal early in the third period to make the score 3-2 (5:19).
The Gladiators increased their lead by two-goals late in the third period to pull ahead 4-2 (18:47). Alex Whelan tipped home a pass from Griffin Luce for his second goal of the night.
Gustavs Grigals turned aside 30 of 32 shots in the victory for the Glads, while Michael Bullion allowed four goals on 30 shots in the loss for Savannah.
