Gladiators invite former UNLV QB Jason Thomas, four others to mini-camp

Las Vegas, NV, December 7, 2004 – The Las Vegas Gladiators announced today that they have invited former UNLV quarterback Jason Thomas and former UNLV wide receiver Troy Mason to the team's two-day pre-training camp mini camp. In addition to Thomas and Mason, the Gladiators also invited QB Erik Farmer, WR/LB Aaron Jones and WR/LB Aaron Neal to mini-camp. All five players, who participated in the Gladiators Dec. 5 tryout at Sam Boyd Stadium, will compete for a roster spot in the mini-camp, which will run Jan 4-5, 2005.

Thomas (6'3", 230, UNLV) played three seasons at UNLV and finished his Rebel career going 323-of-669 passing for 4,997 yards with 30 touchdowns. He also rushed the ball 369 times for 1,528 yards and 24 touchdowns. Following his college career, Thomas had stints with the New York Jets and Atlanta Falcons of the NFL.

Mason (5'10", 180, UNLV) played for UNLV for four seasons and saw action at wide receiver and kick returner. He completed his career at UNLV with 52 total receptions for 868 yards and three touchdowns. He also returned 62 punts for 783 yards with one touchdown and returned 54 kickoffs for 1,121 yards for a career average of 20.8 yards per return.

Farmer (6'5", 220, Missouri) was allocated to NFL Europe by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2004 and played for the Frankfurt Galaxy. He completed 24-of-52 passes for 290 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. He also rushed the ball 14 times for 39 yards. In 2003, he signed with the St. Louis Rams of the NFL as an undrafted free agent but was later released and signed by the Kansas City Chiefs.

Jones (6'0", 185, Utah State) joined the Gladiators training camp in 2004, but was released prior to the start of the season. In 2003, he was on Las Vegas' practice squad.

Neal (6'4", 215, West Virginia) played for West Virginia University for two seasons and saw action in 19 total games and finished his career with 12 receptions for 110 yards with one touchdown. Prior to playing with the Mountaineers, Neal played for California's Ventura Junior College and was the Western State Conference Player of the Year during his second year. He earned juco All-America honors after catching 49 passes for 780 yards and 11 touchdowns in 10 games.

The Gladiators third season at the Thomas & Mack Center kicks off on Sunday, January 30, 2005 at Noon against divisional rival Los Angeles Avengers. The game will be televised nationally on NBC.
