Atlanta Gladiators News Release

As the Gwinnett Gladiators prepare to celebrate their 10th Anniversary season, the ECHL has announced that Gladiators President and General Manager Steve Chapman has been re-elected to serve as Chairman of the league's Board of Governors for a seventh consecutive term.

Chapman was first elected the Chairman of the ECHL Board of Governors following the conclusion of the 2005-2006 ECHL season. He was selected as ECHL Executive of the Year in 2005 and 2006 to become the first honoree in league history to win the award twice.

While serving as the Chairman of the Board of Governors, Chapman has also served as president of the Gladiators. Under his leadership, the Gladiators have consistently ranked among the top teams in average attendance, with the team qualifying for the Kelly Cup playoffs 7 times during the 9 seasons of franchise operations in suburban Atlanta.

"This is a tremendous personal honor and represents an extremely exciting professional challenge", commented Chapman. "I truly appreciate the confidence placed in me by my colleagues, and I look forward to the opportunity of working with them as we continue to maintain the proud legacy of excellence and achievement associated with the ECHL."

Beginning its 25th season, the ECHL is the third-longest tenured professional hockey league in North America behind the American Hockey League (AHL) and the National Hockey League (NHL). The ECHL began in 1988-89 with five teams in four states, and has grown to be a coast-to-coast league with 23 teams in 16 states in 2012-13.

The Gladiators are the ECHL Affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres and the Phoenix Coyotes of the National Hockey League and are members of the ECHL, the Premier "AA" Hockey League and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
