Aberdeen Wings News Release
The Aberdeen Wings, members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that defenseman Will Gilson has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for the University of Alaska Anchorage.
Gilson, a 6'0" 170 lb. native of Old Greenwich, CT becomes the 119th college commitment - the 89th to commit to a Division I school - in the program's history and the second to head to Anchorage since Stephen Obarzanek committed back in 2011-12.
Through 29 games played this season so far, Gilson has tallied four goals and seven assists, and is second among defensemen on the team. His +/- score of 14 is also good for second on the team.
Before Aberdeen, Gilson played for two seasons in the NCDC, appearing in 85 games and recording five goals and 25 assists.
"I'm really proud of Will and what he's done," Wings head coach Steve Jennings said. "We expected him to be here last year but due to COVID, wasn't able to come. But he jumped right in and earned his commitment the right way."
"First, I'd like to thank the Wings organization, along with my teammates and coaching staff, for helping me develop throughout this year," Gilson said. "I'm very grateful for the opportunity the coaching staff the University of Alaska Anchorage is giving me and I'm very excited for the next four years. I'm looking forward to the opportunity to finish out this year right with a strong push for playoffs."
