Utah Grizzlies News Release
WEST VALLEY CITY, UTAH - The Utah Grizzlies in conjunction with the Phoenix Coyotes, their National Hockey League (NHL) affiliate, announced today that Laurence Gilman has been named the team's general manager. Coyotes General Manager Michael Barnett made the announcement. Gilman will continue to serve as the Coyotes assistant general manager but will assume all GM duties for the Grizzlies.
"Much of our excitement about the partnership with the Phoenix Coyotes is based on the quality of the people in their front office," said Grizzlies Executive Vice President Jerry McBurney. "Laurence brings an abundance of hockey experience along with a high level of professionalism to the Utah Grizzlies staff. We look forward to working with him as we embark on a new era in Grizzlies hockey."
Gilman, 39, enters his 11th season with the Coyotes and his fourth as the team's assistant general manager. Previously he worked as the team's director of hockey operations, director of hockey administration and legal counsel. His duties with Phoenix also include involvement in the development and implementation of the budget for the Coyotes' hockey operations department, negotiation of player contracts, salary arbitration, player transactions, scouting and personnel matters as well as the administration and application of the NHL's Collective Bargaining Agreement.
"I appreciate the opportunity and the many challenges it affords me," said Gilman. "The Grizzlies have great ownership, a world class facility and tremendous fan support. We are excited about this partnership and are committed to delivering a competitive and exciting team."
As general manager of the Grizzlies, Gilman will oversee the hockey operations of the team. He will continue to serve as a member of the American Hockey League's Competition Committee as well as the Legal Affairs Committee.
