
Gil, Antonini Each Go Deep Twice in Elizabethton

ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. - Mateo Gil and Aaron Antonini each hit two home runs Saturday evening for the Johnson City Cardinals in Elizabethon. The Cardinals dropped the contest vs. the Twins 13-7 despite the four home runs, which matched a team season-high.
Johnson City (27-23) returns home Sunday to begin a three-game series vs. the Princeton Rays. First pitch is slated for 5:00 p.m. The first 500 fans through the gates will receive a free Johnson City Cardinals Tennessee state outline T-shirt.
Antonini launched the Cards' first homer of the game in the second, blasting off for a three-run shot to cut an early Twins lead from 6-0 to 6-3. Gil added a solo blast in the fourth and another in the seventh. Antonini capped his evening, which also included a triple, with a solo homer in the eighth. Gil and Antonini each reached four times in the game.
Luis Ortiz (0-3) suffered the loss after allowing 10 runs (10 earned) in 3.1 innings of work as the starter. Will Guay and Alex Gallegos combined for four innings of scoreless relief work out of the bullpen.
Chandler Redmond finished with two hits and reached three times. Kevin Vargas helped to score the only run that did not come via longball for the Cards with an RBI groundout to score Antonini in the sixth.
The Cardinals lead the Twins (26-24) by one game in the chase for the Appalachian West crown. Ryan Shreve earned the win for Elizabethton in relief, limiting the Cards to two runs (two earned) over 2.2 innings.
The Cardinals meet the Rays (23-27) Sunday evening. RHP Julio Puello (3-3, 5.63 ERA) is expected to start for Johnson City. The Princeton starter is TBA.
