
Gibson's Finest CFL Players of the Week Named

Toronto, ON - (September 21, 2010) - Andy Fantuz, Markeith Knowlton and Chad Owens were named the Gibson's Finest CFL Players of the Week for week 12, the Canadian Football League announced today.
The three players were chosen by a panel of judges that includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde, now of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

SB - Andy Fantuz - Saskatchewan Roughriders

Highlights / Key Stats:
Saskatchewan slotback Andy Fantuz rose to the occasion in week 12 against the rival Stampeders, earning both Offensive and Canadian Player of the Week honours for his exceptional performance. Fantuz finished the contest with 10 receptions for a career-high 255 receiving yards and one touchdown in the Riders 43-37 overtime victory against Calgary.
The former Western Mustang provided a number of highlights, including a 60-yard TD reception from Darian Durant in the fourth quarter to spur the Riders comeback. Fantuz also had receptions of 36 and 58 yards in the winning effort.
The 255 receiving yards put Fantuz in second place on Saskatchewan's all-time list for most in a single game. Chris DeFrance holds the team record with 260 yards, set in 1983 against Edmonton.

LB - Markeith Knowlton - Hamilton Tiger-Cats

Highlights / Key Stats:
Hamilton linebacker Markeith Knowlton made big plays when it mattered most, leading the Ticats to a 35-31 come-from-behind win over the B.C. Lions. With just under three minutes to play in regulation, Knowlton recovered a Jerome Messam fumble deep in Lions territory. On B.C.'s next play from scrimmage, he sacked quarterback Casey Printers and forced a fumble. The back-to-back defensive efforts resulted in 9 Hamilton points to complete the comeback win.
Knowlton also intercepted Printers late in the third quarter to add to his outstanding half of football. The Ticats defensive standout ended the game with three tackles, one sack, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, one interception and one pass knocked down.

Highlights / Key Stats:
Toronto kick returner Chad Owens continued his impressive play against Winnipeg and was named Gibson's Finest CFL Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time this season. Owens ignited the Argonauts offence by returning a punt 80 yards for the go-ahead touchdown early in the third quarter to score Toronto's first points of the game. The Argos never relinquished their lead and held on to defeat the Bombers 17-13 at home.
The lightning fast return man accounted for 218 total return yards, including eight punts for 125 yards and four kickoffs for 93 yards.
Owens is now a three-time recipient of Gibson's Finest weekly honours this season, having previously won the Special Teams award in week two and the Offensive award in week seven.
