Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
Former Albuquerque Isotopes slugger Jay Gibbons has signed a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, continuing what was one of the best comeback stories of the 2010 baseball season.
The 33 year-old outfielder began the 2010 campaign in Albuquerque, where he was excellent for the 'Topes, amassing a .347 batting average, with 83 RBI, and 19 homers in 95 games, ranking in the top-10 in the Pacific Coast League in each category and earning a selection to the Triple-A All-Star Game and Triple-A Home Run Derby.
On August 8, Gibbons was promoted to the Dodgers, his first Major League action in over two years, and batted .280 with five home runs and 17 RBI in 37 games. He batted .360 (9x25) in his first month with LA and ranked among team leaders in homers (3rd) and RBI (5th) during his time with the Dodgers. He appeared in 19 games in the field, including 13 starts in left and two starts at first.
An eight-year Major League veteran, Gibbons was a 14th-round selection of the Toronto Blue Jays in the 1998 draft and made his big league debut on April 6, 2001 with the Baltimore Orioles after he was selected in the Rule 5 Draft. The outfielder batted .260 with 121 home runs and 405 RBI in 779 games during his seven seasons in Baltimore and was named Most Valuable Oriole in 2003, when he led the club with 80 runs, 173 hits, 39 doubles, and 100 RBI in 160 games.
Season tickets and mini-plans for the Isotopes 2011 season are currently on-sale at Isotopes Park. Call (505) 924-2255 or visit www.albuquerquebaseball.com for details.
