San Jose Giants News Release

LANCASTER - The Lancaster JetHawks scored nine runs over the first four innings and then cruised to a 9-0 victory over the San Jose Giants on Wednesday evening at The Hangar. The Giants were held to six hits and didn't have a runner advance into scoring position after the second inning en route to suffering a second consecutive loss in the series.

Lancaster starting pitcher Nick Tropeano (2-1) picked-up the win after tossing six scoreless innings. Tropeano allowed five hits with two walks and six strikeouts during his stint on the mound.

The JetHawks jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first against San Jose starter Jack Snodgrass. Grant Hogue began the inning with a single before George Springer reached on a throwing error committed by third baseman Adam Duvall. Erik Castro followed with an RBI single to make it 1-0 and then Domingo Santana hit a sacrifice fly to center bringing home the second run of the frame.

Lancaster kept the pressure on with four more runs off of Snodgrass in the bottom of the second. Roberto Pena led off with a single before Hogue singled with one out. A balk advanced the runners to second and third and then Springer blooped a single down the right field line to plate Pena. With Castro at the plate, Snodgrass appeared to pick-off Springer at first, but the runner beat the throw to second from first baseman Ricky Oropesa, and on the play, Hogue raced home to score another run. Hogue was credited with a stolen base of home to make it 4-0.

Two batters later, Santana launched a two-run homer to deep right center field for a 6-0 JetHawks advantage. The home run was Santana's 15th of the season.

In the bottom of the third against Snodgrass, Enrique Hernandez doubled with one out and after Pena walked, Alex Todd delivered an RBI single to make it 7-0.

Stephen Harrold relieved Snodgrass to begin the bottom of the fourth and initially struggled as Castro drew a leadoff walk before Santana was hit by a pitch. Telvin Nash followed with an RBI single to left while Santana eventually scored Lancaster's ninth and final run when Hernandez grounded out.

The Giants threatened in the first two innings against Tropeano, but failed to score in each frame. Carter Jurica and Joe Panik started the contest with back-to-back singles, however Duvall struck out and Oropesa hit into an inning-ending double play. In the second, Jarrett Parker singled with one out before stealing second. With two outs, Luke Anders drew a walk to put runners on first and second, but Tropeano struck out Chris Lofton to end the inning.

Tropeano then pitched around a one-out single from Panik in the third and a one-out single off the bat of Alex Burg in the top of the fourth. San Jose was retired 1-2-3 in the fifth inning while Tropeano worked through a two-out walk in the sixth.

Zach Grimmett relieved Tropeano to start the top of the seventh and fired two scoreless innings with one hit allowed and one walk. Brad Dydalewicz tossed the top of the ninth pitching around a one-out walk to Parker to preserve the shutout.

Snodgrass (7-4) suffered the loss for the Giants after yielding seven runs (six earned) on nine hits over three innings. He walked two and struck out four.

Harrold (3 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 SO), Edward Concepcion (1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 SO) and Drew Bowlin (1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 SO) all pitched in relief for San Jose. The bullpen trio combined to set down the last 15 JetHawks batters of the game. Lancaster didn't have a hitter reach base after Nash's single with none out in the bottom of the fourth.

Jurica (2-for-4) and Panik (2-for-4) each had a pair of singles to lead the Giants offensively.
