Lancaster JetHawks News Release
LANCASTER, CA - After watching two solid pitching performances from the dugouts the last two nights, Nick Tropeano took the mound and matched, maybe trumped his teammates' efforts. The right-hander tossed six scoreless innings to lead the JetHawks to a 9-0 win over the San Jose Giants at The Hangar on Wednesday night.
Tropeano (2-1) struck out six, allowed five hits and issued just two walks. He retire eight of the last nine batters he faced.
Lancaster gave its starter an early lead, scoring in each of the first four innings to give Tropeano a nine run cushion.
It was a short night for Giants All-Star starter Jack Snodgrass (7-4). The left-hander allowed seven runs - six earned - in just three innings.
In the first inning, Grant Hogue led off with a lead off single and moved to third when Adam Duvall over threw first base on a George Springer groundball. Erik Castro followed with a RBI-single and Domingo Santana brought Springer to the plate with a sacrifice fly.
The JetHawks added four more in the second inning. Roberto Peña on second and Hogue on first, Springer singled to drive in Peña and move Hogue to third base.
The two speedy runners followed by pulling off a double steal. Springer took off for second as Snodgrass lifted his leg to throw over to first. First baseman Ricky Oropesa caught the throw and threw late to second allowing Springer to slide in safely. Hogue took off for home on Oropesa's throw and scored without a play at the plate.
Santana hit his 15th homer of the season with Springer on second to put the JetHawks up, 6-0.
Alex Todd drove in a run with a single in the third and Lancaster scored two more in the fourth against reliever Stephen Harrold. After the right-hander walked Castro and hit Santana with a pitch to start the inning, Telvin Nash singled to score Castro and Santana later scored on an Enrique Hernandez ground out.
