Modesto Nuts News Release
The San Jose Giants built an early 8-2 lead and held on to defeat Modesto Thursday night 9-7. The Giants took game one of a four game series by scoring a run in the first inning, five runs in the third inning and a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth innings to build an early lead before Modesto staged a comeback that fell two runs short.
The Giants scored eight runs off Modesto starter Larry Robles (6-5) in five innings and scored a single unearned run in the seventh inning to take a 9-5 lead entering the bottom of the ninth inning. Modesto scored two runs on a pair of RBI singles by third baseman Christian Colonel and designated hitter Kyle Wilson, but the rally came up short.
Christian Colonel entered the game in a 0-20 slump and collected three hits including his 6th home run on the year to go along with four RBIs. The Nuts received strong relief pitching from Eudy Morel and Caleb Balbuena who each pitched two innings of relief.
The series continues Friday night as Steven register (9-11) will start for Modesto against Jesse Floyd (11-6) for the Giants. First pitch at John Thurman Field is 7:05 p.m.
